The Tale of Digital Daisy

Professor Perkins was a very clever and kind old man who had lived a good and productive life and was happy except for one thing – he wished he had a child of his own to love and care for. Using his latest technology, he creates a little digital girl – Daisy – to be his daughter and become part of his family. It seems like a perfect solution and the answer to his wishes, except it soon becomes apparent that, despite the fact she looked like and behaved much like any other child, there was something missing. Leaving Professor Perkins to work on their problem, Daisy heads off on an adventure to try and discover what might be needed for her to become a real person. Could the answer be found not in refining technology but allowing a bug to attach itself to Daisy’s programming? Maybe rather than looking at a screen, it is engaging with actual books that will lead them both into a happily ever after.
Echoing the classic tale of Pinocchio, The Tale of Digital Daisy explores what may be lost when people become immersed in the virtual world while missing out on real connections and experiences.
Full of humour, loveable characters, great songs and audience interaction, the CBCA Book Week in Schools 2027 adventure celebrates the 2027 CBCA Book Week Theme (Catch the Reading Bug) and brings to life a selection of wonderful 2027 CBCA Shortlisted books, while exploring themes of literacy, imagination, empathy, belonging and digital wellbeing.
Your students will discover that the greatest adventures are often found not on a screen, but within the pages of a great book!
CHOOSE YOUR OWN VERSION:
We provide three different versions of The Tale of Digital Daisy to suit the year levels watching. You can choose from either; Junior, General or Senior primary versions.
Each version has a different running time and features a select collection of books specific to their age level - confirmed once the CBCA shortlist is announced. Scroll down for more details to learn about the 2027 shortlisted books.
RESOURCE PACK:
All our programs include a detailed Teacher Toolkit, Resource Pack, and Student Activities that are compiled alongside education and industry experts. These resources include pre- and post-show activities, videos, downloads and digital resources that can be used for follow up activities throughout the year. All scheduled schools receive login details for both teachers and students to access the Resource Hub all year-long.
